A little movement at high spin speed can be normal, but a washer that walks across the floor, hits the wall, or bangs through every cycle needs more than an anti-vibration pad. The fastest way to narrow it down is to notice whether the problem follows one bulky load, started after installation or moving, or happens even with small balanced loads.

Check these safety points before you start.
- Stop the washer if it is walking far enough to strain the water hoses, drain hose, power cord, or stacked dryer connection.
- Unplug the washer before inspecting behind it, and do not tilt or move a heavy appliance alone.
- Do not remove unidentified rear-panel bolts or open the cabinet to reach suspension or drive parts unless the manufacturer specifically identifies the procedure as owner maintenance.
One bad load and every-load vibration are different problems
A single comforter, bath mat, or small load of heavy towels can collect on one side of the drum and trigger a violent-looking imbalance. If the washer is normally calm, pause the cycle using the model's instructions, redistribute the load, and add or remove items only if the manual allows it. Do not force a locked door open.
If the machine shakes on nearly every load, even when clothing is distributed normally, move your attention to installation, leveling, floor support, and mechanical wear. Rebalancing the same load over and over will not fix a washer that is not sitting correctly.
A newly installed front-load washer has one special check: shipping bolts
Front-load washers are commonly transported with bolts or other hardware that immobilize the tub. Whirlpool and other manufacturers warn that running the washer with shipping bolts still installed can cause severe vibration and damage. If the machine is new or was recently moved, check the installation manual before running another high-speed spin.
Do not remove random fasteners from the back panel. Identify only the transport hardware shown for your exact model, save it for future moves if the manufacturer says to, and follow the installation instructions for plugs or covers after removal.

A washer can be level and still sit on a floor that flexes
Upstairs laundry rooms, older wood-framed floors, and pedestal installations can transmit more vibration than a rigid concrete slab. If the washer is level but the whole floor visibly flexes or nearby objects shake, the structure or installation may be amplifying normal drum forces.
Do not use soft foam pads as a first response to a serious movement problem. A pad may change how the feet grip the floor, but it cannot correct shipping hardware, a loose pedestal, damaged suspension, or insufficient floor support. Use only accessories approved for the washer and installation.
New noises after years of normal operation point away from leveling
If the washer used to spin smoothly and now bangs with balanced loads, inspect for visible loose feet, a damaged pedestal, or objects trapped where the manual allows access. Repeated metal-on-metal noise, a drum that sags or has unusual play, leaking during spin, or vibration that worsens quickly can indicate suspension, bearing, tub, or drive problems.
Those repairs can require a heavy appliance to be opened, tilted, or partially disassembled. That is a service job for most households, especially in a stacked installation or tight laundry closet.

- The problem was separated into an occasional unbalanced-load event versus vibration on most loads.
- All four feet contact the floor firmly and the washer is leveled using the model's installation procedure.
- A new or recently moved front-load washer was checked for the exact shipping hardware shown in its manual.
