For an HE washer, use detergent labeled for high-efficiency machines and dose it for the actual load size, soil level, water hardness, and detergent concentration. More detergent does not create more rinsing power. Excess suds can lengthen cycles, lower spin performance, and leave residue behind.
If your washer has an automatic or bulk dispenser, confirm its concentration setting matches the detergent label. For a one-load test, use a smaller correctly measured dose and avoid mixing pods, liquid detergent, boosters, softener, and scent products unless the load truly needs them.

Escalate when residue comes with other washer symptoms
Service is more appropriate when residue comes with repeated error codes, very low water flow, incomplete draining, unusually wet loads, dispenser leaks, or a washer that cannot complete a rinse. Those symptoms can overlap with inlet, drain, sensing, or control problems rather than simple detergent dosing.
If only one faucet or appliance in the home shows mineral debris while others are normal, the washer may not be the source. Whole-home sediment or sudden changes after plumbing work can also affect laundry performance and may need a plumbing or water-quality check.
