Refrigerator Water Dispenser Slow After a Filter Change? Check Seating and Air Before Water Pressure

Slow refrigerator water flow right after a filter change can come from trapped air, a filter that is not fully seated, the wrong replacement, a restricted filter, or a supply-line issue. Diagnose the timing before changing plumbing.

When the refrigerator dispenser was normal yesterday and becomes a trickle right after you install a filter, the timing is useful evidence. Start with the filter and the manufacturer's flush procedure before assuming the house has low water pressure. Replace filters at the interval or usage limit specified for your refrigerator and local water conditions. Sediment from plumbing work or unusually dirty source water can shorten useful filter life, while simply changing filters more often will not fix a kinked line or failing inlet valve.
