When the range hood still pulls air but the cooktop light is dark, the fan circuit is clearly getting power. That narrows the first checks to the lamp, cover, switch behavior, and model-specific bulb requirements. Because the socket is line-voltage equipment above a cooking surface, power should be isolated before you touch the lamp area.
QUICK STEPS
If you need the short version, try these steps first.
- Turn the hood controls off and let the light area cool if it was recently on.
- Disconnect hood power at the plug or circuit method specified by the manufacturer.
- Remove the lens or trim only with the model-specific procedure.
Before you continue, check these safety points.
- Range-hood lamp sockets and internal controls can carry line voltage; disconnect power before access.
- Do not exceed the hood’s specified lamp wattage or substitute an incompatible LED or halogen lamp.
- Do not spray degreaser or water into the lamp socket, switch, or wiring compartment.
Use the fan symptom to narrow the problem before buying parts
If the blower responds normally at several speeds, the hood has power and the issue may be limited to the lighting circuit. Test the light control once, note whether it flickers or works intermittently, and then turn the hood off before accessing the lamp.
Some hoods use replaceable appliance bulbs, while others use integrated LED modules or low-voltage assemblies. Check the model manual before twisting or prying at a light that may not be designed as a screw-in bulb.
- Turn the hood controls off and let the light area cool if it was recently on.
- Disconnect hood power at the plug or circuit method specified by the manufacturer.
- Remove the lens or trim only with the model-specific procedure.
- Record the bulb or LED-module part specification before replacing anything.
- Reinstall all covers before restoring power for a brief light test.
Match the lamp type, base, wattage, and temperature rating
A bulb that physically fits is not automatically correct for a range hood. The fixture may require a particular appliance bulb, halogen capsule, LED module, maximum wattage, or dimming compatibility.
If the bulb glass is broken, wear eye and hand protection and follow the manufacturer’s removal instructions. Do not insert metal tools into a socket while power is connected.
Grease around the lens can cause heat and access problems
Cooking grease can make lamp covers difficult to remove and can trap dirt around vents. Clean only after the assembly is cool and powered off, using products the hood manufacturer allows.
Do not spray liquid cleaner into the socket, switch, or wiring cavity. A loose lens, melted trim, browned socket, or arcing mark is a reason to stop and arrange service.
An LED module or switch fault is usually a service boundary
If the hood uses an integrated LED board, replacing the module may involve wiring connectors and internal covers. Follow only procedures clearly designated for owner maintenance.
If the fan works but a known-good specified lamp still does not, or the light changes when the hood housing is touched, discontinue lighting use and have the switch, socket, or control circuit inspected.
Before you call it done
- The hood’s fan operation was confirmed separately from the light failure.
- Power is isolated before the lens, bulb, or module is touched.
- The replacement matches the exact lamp or module specification for the model.
- Heat damage, arcing, a loose socket, or an internal-control fault is referred for service.
